We've seen a few Elden Ring speedruns already, with folks doing things like winning the game without dying a single moment in Lands Between, among other challenge runs. However, a person who has set world records by running the latest Souls-like from FromSoftware in the fastest possible time has returned with a brand new record-breaking score.
YouTuber and noted Souls speedrunner Distortion2 released a new video that shows their record-breaking duration of 18 hours and 56 seconds. This is wild! In this latest run, Distortion2 employed an exploit that's game-breaking, dubbed "The Zip,"" which allows you to move your Tarnished around the map, letting you bypass entire segments of the game. According to various posts around the community from Reddit to YouTube it's difficult to pinpoint the exact timing of the glitch. In order to perform The Zip, you're supposed to stay alert and move forward at very specific intervals which makes it difficult to execute without any regularity. There are supposedly automatic hot keys that you can employ to make the glitch a little easier, but those seem to be limited to PCs.
In addition to making frequent usage of The Zip exploit--like employing it to jump from the game's first Site of Grace to Stormhill's Stormgate within two or three seconds, the rest of the course is pretty well-known to anyone who's either played Elden Ring or seen any of the many bonkers speedruns. Distortion2 took a zipped route from to the Stormgate Site of Grace, where Melina provides you with Torrent, to Liurnia of the Lakes to get a few things such as an Icerind Hatchet for the nerfed Hoarfrost Stomp skill, disregarding almost every opponent they came into contact with and sparingly using either The Wrong Warp and Zip glitches to traverse into the Lands Between. Distortion2 also employed to fly Torrent exploit to swiftly reach the Academy of Raya Lucaria, that is frequently regarded as a way to get access to the Volcano Manor.
